This is the oldest way to clean carpets.

The selection of the best carpet cleaning method can be confusing. Each retailer, carpet cleaner, and salesperson may have a different recommendation regarding the best carpet cleaning method available.

Because of great difference of carpets there are many “best cleaning methods”. We will review some of the best carpet cleaning methods:

Carpet Shampooing Cleaning Method

This is the oldest way to clean carpets. Using a buffer, the solution is poured on to the brush of the buffer, which then is worked into the carpet.

You must clean a small area at a time, going over it two or three times, just like buffing a floor. Edges and corners must be done by hand. This method can damage carpet, especially if there is a tear, so be careful. You finish the job, just as above, by vacuuming. The vacuuming may be the only way the carpet is actually cleaned. With this method, also known as the rotary method, you are actually spreading the dirt around.

The solution used to clean the carpet has brighteners in it, which make the carpet look nice, hopefully until your customer pays you! But eventually, the dirt will reappear and, just as with the foam method, the shampoo residue will attract dirt itself.

Hot Water Extraction Carpet Cleaning Method

A solution of hot water and detergent is applied to the carpet and then immediately removed using a wet vacuum. Dirt and soil become suspended by the detergent molecules in the same way as washing-up liquid lifts the dirt of your dishes and is then carried away as dirty water by the vacuum.

This is a very popular method as it is suitable for most carpets and excellent at removing allergens, however if the dye in your carpet bleeds on testing a dry method might be more suitable. A professional will often achieve the better results with this method by first spot treating small areas of stain with specialist solutions.

The DIY cleaner – or inexperienced scam professional can hire portable machines at many DIY stores. The main disadvantages and risks associated with this method are the amount of time it takes the carpet to dry afterwards, which should be hours not days, and the risk of shrinkage and colour bleed.

Dry Powder Method Carpet Cleaning Method

This method is suitable when it is not possible to allow time for the carpet to dry. A dry powder containing a mixture of solvents and detergents is spread evenly over the carpet. It acts by preferentially absorbing the soil and dirt from the fibres of the carpet.

When the carpet is later vacuumed the powder carries the soil and dirt with it (as Julie made). A professional will use a special machine to work the powder into the pile of the carpet to achieve the best results. The amateur may be forced to try and achieve similar results by using a clean brush. In any case it is important that a good quality vacuum is used to remove all of the powder from the carpet.

Bonnet Carpet Cleaning Method

Instead of using the shampoo method, using a bonnet is actually a much better way to go. This is a professional technique used to improve the surface appearance of a carpet. It is most commonly used in commercial settings.

Detergent solution is sprayed onto the carpet and then removed by an absorbent rotating pad which is applied to the carpet by machine. Surface soil carried by the detergent is removed as it is absorbed onto the pad, which is replaced as it becomes soiled, but no deep cleaning of the carpet is performed.

The carpet manufacturer should be consulted to determine the preferred method.

You’re walking around with a cup of coffee and suddenly you trip and spill it all over your floor. Let’s face it, coffee stains are unsightly and can make your carpet look old and dirty.

Don’t worry! You can clean that mess right up and remove coffee stain from carpet. Generally, when pouring hot coffee from the pot, we take care to make sure the coffee lands only in the cup and not on our hands or feet. That’s self-preservation because we know that hot coffee can scald and cause painful burns.

Some methods of removing coffee stain from carpet may not work as well as others, since carpets are made from different materials and previously used carpet cleaners may inhibit a cleaner’s activity. There are special commercial carpet coffee stain removal techniques.

Blotting up the coffee stain when it is fresh is the key to stain removal.

First of all test the cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous part of the fabric or carpet before using them on a large area for removing coffee stains from carpet.

Once you make that spill, the first thing to do is not to panic, accidents happen after all. Get a wet cloth and immediately start blotting the stain. It’s important for you blot right away so the stain doesn’t have time to set in. It’s also important to blot instead of rub especially to remove coffee stain from white carpet.

When you put pressure on a coffee stain on your carpet, such as you do with rubbing, you run the risk of having the stain set in deeper. You also run the risk of making the carpet fibers weaker, which can cause this part of the carpet to wear out quicker than the rest of the rug. Blot until you can’t lift any more of the coffee out of the stain.

It’s essential to use the right coffee stain-removal techniques for a type of carpet. For example, natural fibers, such as wool or grass, can react badly to liquid stain removers (see the warning below concerning these chemicals), and you should always think twice before cleaning antique carpets from coffee or valuable rugs. If in doubt, call a professional carpet cleaner.

Fill a glass bowl with two cups of lukewarm or tepid water. Add 1/4 cup of lemon juice and a squirt of liquid dish detergent. Stir gently to mix, then moisten a clean household sponge with the solution. Squeeze it so that it doesn’t drip but still has a sufficient quantity of cleaning solution to apply to the coffee stained carpet. Rub gently beginning at the outside of the coffee stain on carpet and working towards the center. Continue until the whole coffee stain on your carpet has come in contact with the cleaning solution. The stain should be gone by now.

Than dry the carpet. Place a clean, dry dishtowel or sturdy paper towels over the damp spot. Place a plastic bag over them, and then place a heavy object, such as a large book, over the bag. Wait several hours or overnight before removing the towels. The stain should be gone and, because the drying process lifts even deep stains out, it won’t reappear.

Keep your carpet clean, as well as all house.

Microbes are everywhere. While most are totally harmless, some do pose a health threat to your family. The chemical process used to clean your carpets alters the living environment of microbes, thus eliminating many of them from your home. All of the elements that go into producing a clean carpet, including changes in pH, hot water, and the chemicals used, go into reducing the life of microbes.

Did you know?

Carpet and upholstery cleaning can actually have a positive impact on allergies if proper cleaning is performed. Dust mites, mold, mildew, fungi, and allergens are easily and effectively removed with proper carpet cleaning. Prior to removal these allergens are trapped out of the breathing zone within the carpet pile fibers. Other flooring surfaces allow allergens to become airborne with each footstep.

With extra attention given to carpet and upholstery during fall and spring, many allergy symptoms can be greatly reduced. Carpet and upholstery should always be deep cleaned every six months. This will ensure a much happier and healthier home!

Indoor air quality is becoming a major concern to our health. Imagine carpet can help keep the air you breathe, cleaner. Carpet acts as a large filter, trapping bio-pollutants and contaminants removing them from the breathable air.

However, when these filters (carpet) become full of contaminants, the filters must be cleaned or replaced. From another side, if you do not long clean your carpet:

Have you ever heard that indoor air is more polluted than outdoor air? Well, it’s true as reported to Congress by the Environmental Protection Agency. This is because indoor air doesn’t get circulated. It never gets completely replaced. Outdoor air on the other hand gets blown away and new, cleaner air replaces it.

It is advisable to deep clean carpets at least once in 12 or 18 months. This will not only remove the dust and the dirt but also the deep stains. As a result of deep carpet cleaning, the life span of your carpet will increase and it will also look as good as new.

So don’t forget about carpet cleaning and your health!
